Dam Sliding

So imagine our confusion, here we are paddling down the upper Guadalupe River working across New Lake Ingram and see a large group of people lined up on the dam.

Imagine our delight when we discovered that people were lining up on top the dam to slide down the slimy backside to a pool below.

The best sliders were the guys coming down standing up!

  1. I know at least 45 years, I was doing this when I was 15. Great days fun and always on our feet, if you sat down it ate a hole in the bottom of your pants! Lol

  2. A word of CAUTION! When there is water going over the spillway (dam) and the water at the bottom forms a wave that is over your head, that condition is called “A drowning machine”. Essentially anything that floats can tumbles and spin in the same location for hours. Please take a good look at the conditions in the water at the bottom of the dam before slidding down.

  3. Living 5 minutes (by foot) from here has been like having a water park in my back yard. I’m 50 now and have been sliding here sense I was 14. I’ve seen a LOT of people get hurt trying to stand and slide, but once you get it right, there’s no other feeling like it!

  4. 5 comments in 2 days after being written years ago! Huh, so I assume someone linked to the post? If so, can one of you tell me where?
